How do reflections work?
Throughout your day, you share thoughts with Nova — anything from a sentence to a long unguarded paragraph. Nova quietly holds them until the end of the day. When you wake up the next morning, Nova has a small reflection waiting for you — written specifically about what you shared.
It's intentionally not real-time. Reflections take a night to arrive because that's the point: a gentle ritual, not a chat.
My morning reflection didn't arrive — what should I do?
Open the app again. If a reflection is ready, it'll appear automatically. If not, here are a few common reasons:
- You didn't share any notes the previous day. Nova only writes a reflection when there's something to reflect on.
- The notes were too short. A few words don't give Nova enough to work with.
- The app couldn't reach our server overnight. Your notes are still safely held by Nova, but that day's reflection won't be generated retroactively — you'll see a gentle message acknowledging it when you open the app, and the next morning's reflection resumes as usual.
If reflections never arrive for several days in a row, please write to us and we'll dig in.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple (for iPhone) or Google Play (for Android), not by us. To cancel:
On iPhone: Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Selfless Friend → Cancel Subscription.
On Android: Open the Play Store → tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Selfless Friend → Cancel.
Your premium features remain available until the end of the current billing cycle.
Where are my notes stored?
Your notes, reflections, summaries, and memories live on your device. We do not retain them on our servers. To generate each morning's reflection, the app sends your notes and a small amount of derived context to our backend for processing in real time — they aren't kept after that. My "Looking Back" section is empty — is something wrong?
No. Looking Back is the part of Nova that grows with time. Your monthly recaps and emotional profile only start to appear once you've used the app long enough for patterns to emerge — usually a few weeks of regular reflections. Until then, the section gently waits.
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it — my notes are gone
This is expected. Selfless Friend is local-first by design: all your notes and reflections live on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes them. There is no cloud sync in this version. If you want to keep a copy before uninstalling, you can use the in-app backup option in Settings.
Can I use Nova on multiple devices?
Not in this version. Because everything lives on your device, your notes and reflections stay with the device they were created on. Multi-device sync is on the roadmap.
