The short version

• You must be 18 or older to use Selfless Friend.
• Selfless Friend is not therapy, counselling, medical advice, or a crisis service. In emergencies, contact local emergency services or a licensed professional.
• The reflections Nova writes are generated by AI. They are not personalised guidance from a qualified human.
• You own your notes and reflections. We have a limited license to process them so the app can work.
• Selfless Friend is provided as is. Our maximum liability to you is capped (details below).
• If you use the app in ways that harm us or others, we may refuse to process requests from your device.

Who we are

These Terms form an agreement between you and Sonali Tandon, an individual operating as a sole proprietor from India, doing business as Selfless Friend (referred to below as "we", "our", or "us"). You can reach us at selflessfriend.connect@gmail.com.

By installing, opening, or using Selfless Friend (the "App"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

What Selfless Friend is

Selfless Friend is a mobile application that helps you reflect on your day. You share short written notes with the in-app companion (Nova) throughout the day; the App uses AI to generate a personal reflection delivered the next morning, and to remember context from past days so reflections feel continuous.

The App is intended as a gentle space for self-reflection and emotional wellness — not a substitute for human relationships, professional care, or clinical treatment.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Selfless Friend. By installing or using the App, you confirm that you are 18 or older. If you are under 18, please do not use the App.

If you provided false information about your age in order to access the App, you (and, where applicable, your parents or legal guardians) remain solely responsible for any consequences of that use. We disclaim all liability arising from under-18 use of the App where the user has misrepresented their age.

Not medical, therapy, or crisis care

Selfless Friend is not a healthcare service. It is not a substitute for professional advice from a doctor, therapist, psychologist, counsellor, or any other licensed clinician.

Nothing in the App should be relied upon for medical or mental-health decisions. The reflections you receive are AI-generated impressions, not personalised guidance from a qualified human.

If you are in crisis, in danger, or having thoughts of harming yourself or others, please contact your local emergency services or a licensed mental-health professional in your country immediately.

While Selfless Friend includes basic crisis-awareness features, these are not designed to detect every situation, are not professional intervention, and must not be relied upon as a substitute for emergency services or licensed mental-health care.

AI-generated reflections

The reflections Nova writes are produced by third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI and Mistral). These reflections are:

• Generated automatically based on the notes and context you share
• Not reviewed by a human before delivery
• Not personalised advice from a qualified professional
• May contain inaccuracies — AI can produce errors, misleading text, or content inappropriate to your situation

You should treat reflections as gentle prompts for your own thinking, not as facts, recommendations, or judgements you should act on. If a reflection ever feels wrong, harmful, or upsetting, please disregard it and reach out to a qualified person if you need support.

We may change or replace the AI providers we use over time. If a change materially affects how your data is processed, we will update the Privacy Policy and post the change in the App or on this website before it takes effect.

Your content

You own the notes and reflections you create with Selfless Friend. We claim no ownership of your written content.

To make the App work, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process your notes and derived data (summaries, memories) for the sole purpose of:

• Generating your reflections
• Maintaining continuity across days
• Operating the App's features (analytics tab, mood tracking, etc.)

This license ends when you uninstall the App. We do not use your content to train AI models, to market other services to you, or for any purpose unrelated to running Selfless Friend. See the Privacy Policy for the complete data flow.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the App in violation of applicable law, or to facilitate any illegal activity
• Submit content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, harassing, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable
• Use the App to impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the App, except where applicable law expressly permits this despite this limitation
• Access or attempt to access the App's backend, APIs, or internal systems through any means other than the official App
• Use automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) to interact with the App
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the App or any part of it
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's operation, its security features, or its infrastructure
• Attempt to extract, harvest, or copy other users' data — note that there is no realistic way to do so, as the App holds no user data on its servers, but the prohibition stands regardless

We reserve the right to investigate and respond to suspected violations of these rules, including by refusing to process requests from your device (see "Termination" below).

Subscriptions and payments

Selfless Friend includes optional paid features offered as a subscription called Nova Premium. Nova Premium is available as Nova Premium Monthly (recurring monthly) or Nova Premium Yearly (recurring annually), with prices and entitlements displayed inside the App.

How purchases are made

Premium subscriptions are sold and processed through:

• Apple's App Store (iOS users)
• Google Play (Android users)

via a third-party payments orchestrator (RevenueCat). When you subscribe:

• Your purchase contract is with Apple or Google, not with us directly
• Your payment is handled by the platform (Apple Pay, Google Pay, card on file with the platform)
• Apple and Google's standard terms apply to billing, taxes, refunds, and chargebacks

We do not see, receive, or store your payment details. We only see whether your subscription is active.

Renewals and cancellation

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings:

• iOS: Settings → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions
• Android: Google Play → Account → Subscriptions

Cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current period.

Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google, depending on where you purchased. We do not directly issue refunds because we do not directly receive your payment. Their respective refund policies apply:

Price and feature changes

We may change the price or features of Nova Premium from time to time. If we increase the price of an active subscription, the platforms (Apple, Google) will notify you in advance and you can cancel before the change takes effect.

Relationship to the app store agreement

Your use of Selfless Friend is also subject to the end-user license agreement (EULA) of the platform you downloaded it from — Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement on iOS, or Google Play's terms on Android. That platform EULA governs the software license for the App itself.

These Terms supplement the platform EULA and govern your relationship with us regarding the Selfless Friend service — including subscriptions, content, disclaimers, liability, and dispute resolution. To the extent these Terms conflict with the platform EULA on any matter concerning our service, these Terms control, except where the platform requires its EULA to prevail.

Disclaimers

Selfless Friend is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including (without limitation) any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, or freedom from harmful components.

We do not warrant that:

• The App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available at any particular time
• The AI-generated reflections will be accurate, appropriate, suitable for your situation, or free of errors
• Any defects in the App will be corrected
• The App will meet your specific expectations or requirements

Your use of the App is at your own discretion and risk.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

We (Sonali Tandon, doing business as Selfless Friend), our affiliates, contractors, and service providers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages — including (without limitation) damages for loss of profits, goodwill, data, emotional distress, or any other intangible loss — arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total cumulative liability arising from or related to your use of the App, in any single calendar year, shall not exceed the greater of:

(a) the total amount you have actually paid us for Nova Premium in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, OR

(b) USD $100 (one hundred United States dollars).

This cap applies regardless of the legal theory under which damages are claimed (contract, tort, statute, or otherwise).

If applicable law does not permit some of these limitations, they apply only to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be lawfully limited (for example, liability for fraud, gross negligence, or — in certain jurisdictions — death or personal injury caused by negligence).

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Sonali Tandon, doing business as Selfless Friend, from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

• Your use of and access to the App
• Your violation of any term of these Terms
• Your violation of any third-party right (including any privacy or intellectual property right)
• Any content you submit through the App
• Any misrepresentation by you (including misrepresentation of age)

We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defence and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with us in asserting any available defences.

Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. Doing so deletes your local data and ends your license to use the App.

We may refuse to process requests from devices we reasonably believe have violated these Terms, applicable law, or the rights of others. We may also discontinue the App, in whole or in part, at any time and without prior notice if continued provision becomes impractical for any reason.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and dispute resolution — will survive. Termination of your right to use the App does not affect your obligations or our rights with respect to your prior use, including any claim that arose before termination.

Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the App shall be settled by binding arbitration in Chandigarh, India, conducted in English under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, by a sole arbitrator. Each party shall bear its own costs and fees. The parties waive any right to participate in a class action or class arbitration.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the courts of Chandigarh, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction over: (a) requests for injunctive or equitable relief to protect intellectual property rights or prevent imminent harm, and (b) any specific dispute for which the arbitration provision above is found unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your country of residence.

General provisions

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of Selfless Friend, and supersede any prior or contemporaneous understandings, communications, or agreements — whether oral or written. Marketing copy, support email replies, social media posts, and other communications do not form part of these Terms.

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court or arbitrator of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or, if it cannot be made enforceable, struck from these Terms. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

No waiver. Our failure or delay in enforcing any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. No waiver shall be effective unless made in writing and signed by us. A waiver in one instance does not waive any other right or future instance.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make changes that materially affect your rights or obligations, we will post the updated Terms in the App or on this website before the change takes effect. Smaller clarifications (typos, formatting, contact details) may be updated without notice. The "Effective" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent change.

Your continued use of the App after a material change takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the App.
